Philly Black Worker Project
MISSION
VISION
We envision a collective economy that prioritizes the needs of the people in our community and the land that we live on. Cooperative ownership models already exist. As these models become popular and tenable, Black workers can become collective owners of their labor and make decisions that directly benefit the worker communities they are a part of. We will build intentional workplaces that value the worker - regardless of race, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, incarceration status or any other identities. In order to get here, there is work to be done!

The Philly Black Worker Project utilizes collective action, policy change and community power-building to win quality jobs, reduce employment discrimination, and improve working conditions in industries that employ significant amounts of Black workers. We believe that collective action can bring change to low road industries and shift power from employers to Black workers, so that we are employed in good jobs and treated with respect and dignity.
CORE VALUES
We center the experiences, leadership, and power of Black workers. We know that the exploitation of Black labor is not a flaw in the system—it is the system. Our fight for fair wages, safe conditions, and respect on the job is inseparable from the broader struggle for Black liberation.
Our Core Values:
-
Collective Power
-
Community
-
Joy
We are more powerful when we:
-
We hold space to care for each other and recognize our full humanities
-
Stand in solidarity with all oppressed people around the world
-
Fight to transform extractive, harmful industries into collective economies that prioritizes the needs of the people in our community and the land that we live on.
